In my third year of studying photography at RMIT I had the opportunity to exhibit work that I was particularly prooud of, and outside the usual classroom presentations.

Every year RMIT hosts the Robyn Beeche photography award for 3rd year students and showcase some of their best folio work. I was lucky enough to be selected as a finalist for the award which meant that I had the opportunity to exhibit my work to the public along with four of my fellow photography students.

This was my first experience actually putting together an exhibition in a gallery setting as well as printing my work in large format. I was able to work with the university faculty who taught me a great deal about what goes into curating an exhibition. Everything from image selection, scale, sequencing and placement had to be considered. All I can say is, for anyone who wants to exhibit theirĀ  work: be prepared to do a lot of math!

Seeing the work in large scale up on the gallery wall had a certain satisfaction that I had not expected to feel. It reinforced my appreciation for the effort that goes into curating an exhibition as well as sparked a desire to continue showing work publicly.

Likely my next opportunity to exhibit will be the end of year grad show in December which I am already excited for!
